At its just concluded 209th session, the Executive Board of UNESCO endorsed the proclamation of "Djerdap" as a UNESCO Global Geopark, in accordance with the decision of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council from the meeting held in Lombok (Indonesia), from 31st August to 2nd September 2019. "Djerdap" is the first UNESCO Global Geopark in the Republic of Serbia. Its proclamation and acceptance to the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network is a recognition and encouragement for the protection, preservation and promotion of diverse natural and cultural heritage of this area.
